Niwat Architects

Welcome to Niwat Architects, a Chiang Mai-based architecture practice with a long-standing connection to Northern Thailand, its culture, landscape, and way of life. For more than five decades, we have been designing homes, hotels, resorts, and other spaces that bring together thoughtful architecture and the character of their surroundings.

Our work is strongly influenced by Lanna culture and the natural environment. We believe a good building should belong to its place rather than simply sit on it. This means looking carefully at the land, existing trees, sunlight, airflow, views, materials, and the way people will use the space before developing a design.

Sustainability has always been an important part of our work. We make use of passive design principles, natural ventilation, daylight, shading, appropriate materials, and alternative energy where they make sense for the project. We are particularly careful with existing trees and the surrounding landscape, because we believe architecture should work with nature rather than against it.

Every project is different, and so is every client. Our services cover architecture and landscape design, renovation, and consultancy, with projects ranging from private residences and vacation homes to boutique hotels and larger hospitality developments. We work closely with our clients throughout the process, listening to their ideas and finding practical ways to turn them into spaces that feel personal and lasting.
